Hi everyone! Welcome to autumn!
We have much to cover this month. I have articles on using astrology for weight loss, how to work with the moon for maximum results in your daily life, the October eclipses, news from New Orleans and so much more! First here's a few announcements: |
Issue #89
September 2005 Update #6 |

Maria Shaw's Astro Diet Book!
Maria Shaw's Astro Diet Book is out! It's finally here and is available at all of my fairs, on my website, and by calling me at 810-631-6887 or emailing me at askmariashaw@aol.com. It's $20 plus S&H.
FREE ASTRO DIET COUNSELING/STUDY PROGRAM!!!! OPEN TO ALL Do you remember last May when I asked for volunteers for the diet study? We had so many responses that we couldn't get to everyone. Well, we're going to do it again so we can include everyone who would like to participate. My publicist in Los Angeles, Steve Allen has been getting lots of calls from women's magazines interested in doing a story on the astro diet plan. We will work with you from 1 month to maybe 3 months. All I ask is that you buy the Astro Diet Book. You can do so by registering with me at 810- 631- 6887 or emailing me at askmariashaw@aol.com. Everything will be done by email. The last diet we did in June was very successful. A Virgo in Lapeer MI lost 18 pounds in one month! Many others lost in the "double digits" too. All of the counseling will be free. We will be working with astrology and your birthday information to help you. More information will be forthcoming if you join us. Let me know what your birthday is, how much you weigh and the amount of weight you want to lose and any other contact info you can share.
Here's the publishing company's press release of the diet plan. If you don't want to join the study, you can still order the book by calling 810-631-6887 or email askmariashaw@aol.com
The Astro Diet Book Dieting With the Stars You've tried every diet under the sun but this one!
Maria Shaw navigates you through the galaxy of a new weight loss world in her latest book, Maria Shaw's Astro Diet. "No diet works the same for everyone, explains Maria. That's why a Sagittarius can lose 10 pounds in three days on Atkins but a Gemini may actually gain weight. To achieve weight loss, one needs to focus on the personality traits and the emotional, psychological and physical make- up found in his or her zodiac sign."
"I've been counseling clients for over fifteen years, and the two top questions I get asked are; Will I ever meet my soul mate? and How can I lose weight? Maria explains. I had already written a best seller about "love". It was now time to write a diet book!"
She then put together a test group of people from Cleveland to Canada. All signs were represented; from the candy- craving Libra to the carb- lovin' Capricorn; the Aquarius who needed to lose her last ten pounds to the Pisces who desperately wanted to drop a hundred. Maria researched their astrology charts, counseled them one on one, and set the course for effective weight loss. Her theories were deemed successful when everyone lost weight. "I knew the diet program would work! If I, a sweet tooth Cancerian, can lose 40 pounds in five months, astrology can benefit everyone."
So, what really motivates a Leo to drop a dress size? What exercise suits a Taurus best? Which foods help and hinder a food addiction sign like Virgo? Maria Shaw's Astro Diet includes the following:
- Best days to start a diet that you'll stick to
- Foods that aid in weight loss
- Times when you're mostly like to cheat
- Best exercises for each sign
- Best times to lose weight effortlessly
- Diet program suggestions for every sign
- Your Very Own 2006 Daily Diet Forecast for the entire year!
You'll know when to expect progress, and to be prepared for the pitfalls.
Here are some of the results: Darlene (Virgo) - Lost 18 pounds in 30 days! "I feel so empowered right now. I am totally happy how Maria's diet plan is working for me! I will continue to follow it, because it works!"
JoAnn (Pisces) - Lost 14 pounds in 4 weeks. "When I read your helpful daily diet forecast, I feel that universe is working with me!"
Panvenus (Cancer) - "TOSS THE GIRDLE. . . . Don't need it anymore! I'm wearing a suit with no girdle, which I have NEVER done before!"
Julie (Aries) - "My boyfriend said the three magic words to me today. . . "'You've lost weight!'"
Angelina (Scorpio) - "No diet plan has done what the Astro Diet has! I feel a lot better about myself. I wanted to feel sexier, and I do!"
Here is some tidbits you can read in the book: |

Astrology and Weight Loss
By Maria Shaw
Ever think of astrology as a way to lose weight? It can be a great tool. Not for just timing weight loss periods but weight gain times too. You can prevent the extra pounds if you're aware. Everyone has good times to lose weight naturally and easily. So what are they? The first aspect is called Saturn on the ascendant. You'll need to know your rising sign to determine this. However sometimes when Saturn conjuncts your sun sign, you can lose weight too. Although you may feel too darn tired to notice or care!
Saturn is a planet that "restricts". So if it's on your rising sign which rules the physical body, Saturn will work wonders. If you started a diet under this aspect, you'd probably be quite successful. Saturn would supply you with the discipline you need to lose the weight too. This aspect only comes around every thirty years.
Here's a rundown where Saturn will be over the next twelve years. If you don't see your sign listed, don't give up. Just know you'll have to go it alone without Saturn's help for a little longer.
Saturn Transits
Leo - July 17, 2005 - September 2, 2007
Virgo - September 3, 2007 - October 29, 2009
Libra - October 30, 2009 - October 5, 2012
Scorpio - October 6, 2012 - December 23, 2014
Sagittarius - December 24, 2014 - December 20, 2017
A good time for weight gain is when Jupiter conjuncts the rising sign which happens about every twelve years. Jupiter expands things. That's usually good except when it expands your waistline. You can take precautionary measures knowing ahead of time when Jupiter will visit. Diet or exercise more before, during and a little bit afterward Jupiter comes to call.
These are the years Jupiter will be in seven of the twelve signs: Look for your sun or rising sign below so you'll be prepared:
Libra - September 27 2004 - October 26, 2005
Scorpio - October 27, 2005 - November 24, 2006
Sagittarius - November 25, 2006 - December 18, 2007
Capricorn - December 19, 2007 - February 5, 2009
Aquarius - February 6, 2009 - January 18, 2010
Pisces - January 19, 2010 - January 22, 2011
Aries - January 23, 2011 - June 5, 2011
More questions I get asked from clients about weight:
1. Why do people get fat after they married or get in a comfortable relationship?
My answer: Sometimes, when we get involved with someone, we have a tendency to lose a part of ourselves. So the body puts up a safe wall of weight so it doesn't lose anymore of "you". You will see many women who are married a while and sacrifice their lives for their kids and husbands gain weight.
Side note: To get down to a normal body weight takes a lot of courage for some people because basically your body is then choosing to live life unprotected by the layers of fat....and protected only by it's spirit. So when one gets in touch with their spiritual side and lives through spirit, the body does need protection nor the extra weight. It takes two years to adjust to your new weight. You'll find that when you become thin, you're vulnerable and must trust inner resources more because you don't have a wall of fat for protection
2. What about food addicts?
The food addiction signs are Cancer and Virgo. Taurus tend to put weight on easily too and some Pisces types as well. However the number one culprit in putting weight on, astrologically speaking, is the planet Neptune. Neptune can sabotage weight loss efforts. The addict looks at food as a reward and can easily be caught in self defeating patterns. Neptune helps one to let their guard down, to raid the fridge at midnight. Neptune destroys your boundaries.
Other tidbits:
Also did you know people who have had abusive homes, over protective parents or a lack of privacy as a child, tend to be overweight? People who can't say no to the demand of others will find it hard to say no to supersizing their fries at McDonalds. What was your quick fix in childhood, going shopping or having a cookie to make everything better? Think about. Early childhood conditioning lasts a lifetime.
People with a Moon/Pluto aspect in their chart will bury their anger by getting fat. Some people eat hardly anything and still can't lose weight. This issue may because of anger issues. When they let go of their anger they often lose weight. Transiting Pluto will help you lose weight. It's a long process because it has to works also to remove old anger issues at the same time. If someone has lots of childhood issues, a transit form Pluto will help heal Aquarius natives are more often to carry baggage from early upbringings than other signs. They can be quite rebellious as children.
Eating Disorders
It is said you can tell a person who has an eating disorder by the way they keep their home and car. If their car is messy and their house cluttered, their lives seem out of control. Therefore, their eating patterns may be out of control too.
Reasons People Eat and Remedies
Sadness - instead of eating, relax yourself, meditate more and become creative. When you are creative, you feel happy.
Anger - Get a drum and do drumming exercises. Affirm yourself releasing your anger and fear with every beat. Anger is fear.
Caregiver - For those of you who can't say "no" and are constantly taking care of other people, it's easy for you to put extra weight on. Start saying "no" when you can and do more for yourself. Wear red more often. Red gives you energy and sends out the message "Don't mess with me!"

Astro News
Mars Retrograde - Mars retrograde is Taurus from October 1st to December 9th is not a good time to open a business, sell a new product or launch a new product. That's why I rushed to get my new book out so quickly before the October 1 deadline!
People will also be dealing with some repressed anger issues. The planet Mars appears to move backwards from Earth. However, Mars is at its closest to Earth now, so Mars energy is (Mars is the God of War) is up close and personal.
Since Mars is moving extremely slow, you'll easily see some of the many challenges "Mars retrograde" is bringing you. You'll find that you or others are more irritable and angry. Everyone is complaining and some people are looking for a fight. Well, this Mars energy will intensify over the next two months, especially in October during the two eclipses. Mars is about our physical energy, our direction we are headed in and the plans we take to get ahead in life. These things would be thwarted now. You could feel frustrated...very frustrated.
Most of the time we do not let our anger show. We allow it to build so now with Mars retrograde, it ALL comes flooding out! (Kind of like the levee breaks in New Orleans) Whatever anger we have been hiding, is out and open during this period.
You can no longer repress it. But you need to be careful how you deal with this energy. When we are mad and resentment, we tend to energetically push good things away from us. We should release the anger and act compassionately instead.
Anger blocks us from getting us what we desire. There are ways to deal with it; one is not to take things so personally. If a coworker is angry at you, you should try to remove the negative energy from the office right away; use crystals, like onyx and quartz (we have some quartz crystals here for purchase if you need one or pick up at a local new age store) The crystals will help deflect the negative energy away from you. Smudge your home with sage. Use visualization techniques to clear bad energy from spaces. This can be done remotely too.
I guarantee most of you will have issues and arguments with mates, coworkers and people in general, so take a deep breathe and don't allow this energy to take hold. Realize this Mars retrograde should be a time for clearing. If you have been building to a boiling point, let the anger out in a positive way.
Eclipse October 3rd in the sign of Libra at 10 degrees
Be careful of miscommunication. Relationships will be a big theme, legal issues, courts and partnerships. See where Libra is in your own natal chart or what planets and angles you have at 10 degrees or in the sign of Libra to gain a better understanding of how this eclipse will affect you personally.
October 17th - Eclipse in Aries at 24 degrees. Libra, Aries, Cancer and Capricorn will be most affected or people with 24 degrees in their charts in aspect. Read my old archive newsletter on eclipses for more info. |

FINALLY - TAROT FOR TEENS
Maria Shaw's Tarot Kit for Teens, Maria Shaw, Llewellyn Worldwide, St Paul, MN 55164-0383, 2004, Boxed set: 78 card deck, bag and 175 pp, $19.95. (book alone $9.95).
This is a great set. It's perfect for teens. The box is pink, so you won't miss it at your bookstore. On the back are pictures of some of the cards. It's the Universal Tarot, which a lot of people are familiar with. Maria Shaw is a famous psychic and astrologer. You might have seen her on TV or read her astrology columns in magazines like Soap Opera Digest. Inside the box are the deck, the book, a box to keep your cards in, or you can use the net bag that comes with the set.The deck is the Universal Tarot, but it's a La Scarabeo version that has bright colors and very artistic pictures. Each card has its name in four languages. The pictures are big enough to see the details.
The book is about 5x7, a nice size to fit in a purse or backpack. There are illustrations, and each card is shown with its interpretation, so you don't even have to have the deck when you're reading the book. The book is written in really easy to read language, and it doesn't talk down to teens. I like the way Maria Shaw writes: "You don't need to know anything about the tarot. You won't even have to memorize the card meanings. All you need is a tarot deck and a willingness to learn. So c'mon. Think of a question or two you're dying to ask, draw a card from your new deck, and then look up its meaning. You'll have an answer in no time!" And it works!
My friends and I had fun—and gained a lot of insight—by asking questions and drawing cards and reading the meaning. Maria Shaw makes reading tarot interesting, fun and educational. I learned that reading tarot isn't as hard as I thought, and, yes, it is a major responsibility when you're reading for someone else. I was always afraid I would see something negative when reading for a friend, and I wouldn't know what to do. Maria says, "Even if you see something negative, you have a responsibility to warn your friends about what may be coming, because they then have the opportunity to make changes to avoid conflicts and hurt." That made it a little less scary. Maria Shaw talks about how she first started doing readings and how she felt. That also made it a lot less scary. If you're not interested in the history of the tarot, you can skip that chapter, but it is very interesting. It's only a few pages, and well worth reading. Maria Shaw explains the difference between the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana in detail, which is a big help. I like the keywords she uses. For example, aces are for luck or new beginnings. Fours are for action and creation. Although I like the bag that came with the kit, I am making my own bag, based on the instructions in the book. The diagrams make it easy, even if you aren't good at crafts or sewing. Maria Shaw explains how to prepare for a reading, which is very helpful. She explains how to do spreads and how to read for yourself or others. She even writes about good or bad days to do readings. There are a lot of spreads to try, and you can try them all until you find the one that works best for you. Or you can make up your own spread.
This is a wonderful book. It explains very clearly what the card means in the upright position and in the reversed (or "heads down") position. And the explanations are very detailed, not just a few confusing words that don't really help you interpret the card. - Toni Stevens
So be sure to come out to Saginaw at the Hampton Inn October 29th for the Free Tarot Workshop! It'll be something fun to do to celebrate Halloween! |

News from New Orleans
Thank you to all of you who have donated money for the 2 families we are sponsoring who lost everything in New Orleans due to Katrina. Cheryl Welliver and Dawn Leslie's families are grateful for your support or prayers. My home is still okay in the French Quarter although our roof caught on fire a week ago due to a fire spreading from another home. It has been one thing after another. Bonnie Broel is fine and in Metairie this week, staying with a friend. She reports there is still no electricity or water in the Garden District. The French Quarter has some shops open and of course some bars but we are still not allowed back in yet. I have sent the money some of you have given me to Dawn Leslie and here is a letter I received from her over the weekend:
Dear Maria: Words cannot express how grateful I am of the support and help that you and your friends have shown to both myself and my family. I have yet to call to say, Thank You; for I left Arkansas and traveled to my home. I actually went there on Thursday that just past, and am now willing to discussed what I saw.
Maria, words cannot express what I experienced upon arriving home. Everything that flood waters touched, it killed. The flood waters left behind a thick black mud about 1'foot thick, and it kills everything it touches. My pine trees where thirty years old and already only after two and half weeks they where dead. Everything in and around my parish is totally destroyed, it looks as if the Devil came in and sucked the live out of everything that was alive, including yourself.
So than I arrive home, which is about 15 miles east of New Orleans. Never expected to see what I witnessed. You seem to think that when your home floods everything gets wet, you know in your heart everything is destroyed, however you cannot imaged what I walked into.
I walked into what looked like a bomb exploded in my home. Everything thing that I owned was totally destroyed. All my furniture was totaled, in shambles, shredded as it if it where toothpicks. My stove was in my living room, freezer in my attic, my daughters bedroom furniture was shredded, my bedroom furniture was flipped inside out. Ceilings fell in, not one picture on the walls nor anything else for that matter. My new kitchen cabinets where in hallway, making my entrance to the back of my house almost in possible.
My back yard used to be lined with rose gardens, patio cover, furniture and shed. My shed was no where to be found. My daughters had two, 4 wheelers in that shed, well either one was recovered or found. Our jet skis where gone with my trailer siting top of my mothers roof, three doors down. Every single house was completely destroyed, and our parish will not recover for years.
As for the city of New Orleans and any other surrounding parishes that flooded, I cannot help but think that the same devastation will exists in everyone's heart, that ways so heavily on mine. The love that exists in your soul for these places seems to hurt as if you actually lose a loved one, its a part of you.
However, on the brighter side our world seems to be alit bit more bearable knowing we have people that love and care for us as you do Thanks So Much from all of us.
With all my love.

"I will be pouring water into the floodwaters in the City on Wednesday at 2pm central time. Can you forward this. IT IS ALL ABOUT WATER ...Henri Roca, MD.
Our lives float by on the whims of wishes and dreams yet we expect a degree of steadfastness, predictability, and constancy. We are over 80% water, each of us, yet we cover ourselves with form, live within structure, and gather around us material goods. Here in New Orleans we left the land that supported a vibrant, diverse culture descended from the riverboat gamblers and sharecroppers, patriots and pirates, French and Spanish and Irish and German and Italian and African and Vietnamese. We were rich and poor. We were never owned by the English and so had a unique Lassiez Faire all our own. We lived and loved for the sake of the pure enjoyment of such things. When we left the constancy of the land, we took ourselves and our spirits with us. We left because of the water. Rather we ourselves became the flowing. We are now a fluid population. We ebb and flow across the country. Our emotions, our stories, our tears, our joys flow from us. We are creatures of water. Water defines our City and ourselves. We have water in our air, water in our land, and with the heat of the sun, our water becomes steam. We became our water.Water had hit us like a fist destroying our homes. Water smothered us like a glove. Water cleansed the City. Water, water, water. In its cleansing, it took on our collective refuse - not just the refuse of the City of New Orleans but also the refuse of the nation. We rediscovered poverty and need. We rediscovered our collective darkness for New Orleans served as the root chakra of a continent. All of your joys and tears flowed past us. All of your best attributes and darkest desires were ours to release. And so in the thanking of water, I would ask that all of you participate with me this Wednesday September 21 at 2pm CST in ritual of gratitude to water. Matsui Emoto's work illustrated that intention can transform polluted water into water that crystallizes with beautiful and bountiful forms. Our intention can help heal the water that has taken on our impurities. Water is a unique entity that holds, transmits, and strengthens information. Water holds the healing in homeopathy. Water tracks the shifts in the Zero Point Field. Water responds to intention. Let our intention transform our water.I ask you do three things:
1. Stand before the mirror and bless the water within yourself by saying three times: "I love you. I am grateful for you in your completeness." You may do this every day.
2. Place a jar of water with the words "Love" and "Gratitude" to charge overnight. As close to the 2pm CST moment as possible, pour that water into the nearest body of flowing water. See that water purifying all the water it touches until it arrives at New Orleans and beyond.
3. At 2pm CST this Wednesday, join with me intending "Love and Gratitude" as I pour water charged with those words into the flood waters of New Orleans.

Problems with getting my newsletters?
We're having more and more problems with email providers blocking us, as we are suspected of sending spam around with this email letter. If you miss out on any future issues (currently AOL, .cs, worldnett.att.net members and even some MSN addresses are a huge trouble here) ask your email provider to UNBLOCK this newsletter address. AOL members need to phone the AOL Postmaster Hotline at 1-703-265-4670 or 1-888-212-5537 and ask them to get us on the whitelist. (And then they are first going to monitor our email behavior. :-) )
Each week we are sending the non deliverables on to Rich who takes great pains in getting the email newsletter to you but, boy, it is almost becoming unmanageable with the current anti-spam politics. We're suffering both ways now. From the spam and from the blockades. Please note that if you miss out on any future issue, this may be because YOUR provider has blocked our email address. What can you do? Ask your provider to unblock this newsletter email address immediately...for this is not an unsolicited bulk mail but a much wanted one. :-)
