Here's your article for December. With all of the holiday parties and extra stress we put upon ourselves, many of us may suffer from a headache or two. Here's a way to get rid of a nagging headache in a natural way!
Incense for Headaches
The Llewellyn Journal
Date: 2005-11-07 By: Ember
The world of aromatherapy suggests many types of essential oils that are useful for healing. But incense can also be utilized as a remedy for certain conditions. Headaches are a common ailment many people face, but with the calming effects produced by certain aromas, symptoms can be relieved.
Incense and aromatherapy work because our sense of smell is a direct path to the brain. This process activates our Limbic System and is the reason why certain odors trigger an immediate response. Particular aromas are known to stimulate the brain to produce essential chemicals. We're familiar with some of these such as serotonin and dopamine, which cause feelings of happiness, relaxation and contentment. In addition, many of the ingredients used in incense contain phytochemicals, which are chemicals found in plants that have protective, disease-preventing properties.
First, it's necessary to pinpoint the reason for the headache. Is it stress, hormones, sinusitis? In this way you can target an appropriate remedy. Naturally, keep in mind that incense or aromatherapy is not a substitute for seeking medical attention. Once you have attempted to identify the cause of the discomfort, you can find the particular ingredient for your symptoms. Here are three types of incense recommended for headache relief:
Borneol (Drybalanops camphora), a resin derived from the camphor tree, is refreshing and cleansing. Its camphor-like aroma opens the nasal passages, so it's especially beneficial for headaches brought on by sinus problems. Borneol smells wonderful even when it's not burning. The Chinese call it "The Brain of the Dragon." It kills bacteria, purifies the air, and stimulates the adrenal cortex of the brain. Borneol is a primary ingredient in Buddhist incense.
Spikenard (Nardostachys jatamansi), a woody herb found mainly in Nepal, is closely related to valerian. The dried roots are used, and have a musky aroma that helps enhance contemplation. Its sedative properties are useful for easing headaches, migraines, and relieving stress.
Star Anise (Illicium verum) comes from a small tree native to southwestern China that produces a fruit that ripens into the shape of a star. It is well-known for its licorice taste, of which an extract is used in making true licorice. Star Anise contains certain phytochemicals and ACE inhibitors, which lower blood pressure. This can produce a calming effect and help reduce pain.
For headache relief simply breathe in the smoke. If you're using good quality incense the smoke will be light colored or white – it should never be black. This indicates the presence of impurities. Hold the incense burner if it's not hot or set it in front of you on a table. As the smoke rises, cup your hand through the stream and slowly, gently beckon the smoke toward you. Breathe normally. Don't inhale too deeply at first. You can gradually deepen your breathing, but never inhale so much that it makes you uncomfortable. Continue to do this for a few minutes then allow the incense to permeate the room. Lie down, cover your eyes, and relax. Use an herb-scented eye pillow if you have one. These can often be found scented with lavender, another herb that helps alleviate headaches.
Try to find these ingredients in stick incense form or look for the loose resins and wood and burn them on a bamboo charcoal to avoid toxic chemicals. If you can, grind the ingredients all together with mortar and pestle to make an all-purpose headache relief blend. Always remember to beware of the artificial joss-stick type of incense. These can actually cause a headache, along with respiratory problems.
The use of incense and other aromas can be beneficial for healing. But always consult a professional if the condition continues. Combined with other natural techniques for mind, body, and spirit, incense can add depth and dimension to holistic healing practices – in addition to producing a relaxing and fragrant environment.

Astro news: StarScoper Helen asked for info on the Venus Retrograde coming
up Christmas eve. How will this planet of love affect you?
What's Up? Venus Retrograde
December 24, 2005 - February 3, 2006
While Venus is retrograde, old friends and/or lovers may reenter one's life. During this period, financial returns are apt to be delayed and affection is more difficult to receive and express. Beginning a new relationship, buying luxury items and investing in objects of art or items of beauty is generally discouraged during the retrograde period. Venus retrograde is a good time to reflect on your values, to review your relationships and to donate your energy to a charitable cause.
This Venus retrograde takes place mostly in the sign of Capricorn, promoting formal and business interactions. There is a yearning for recognition that can leave you feeling unappreciated, even among friends. The need for structure is highlighted, which often leads to the formation of long-term relationships (for better or worse). Seriousness, combined with the desire to get ahead, easily degrades into a cold and scheming demeanor. Be conscious of how you treat friends and loved ones. Your focused attitude may be perceived as rejection or a lack of respect, and feelings could be hurt. This is an excellent time to review the amount of fulfillment derived from your professional life and to consider how you can be more responsible and responsive to your friends and loved ones.
It might be helpful to look back to December 1997 through February 1998, the last time Venus went retrograde from Aquarius to Capricorn, for clues to how events may manifest.
Important Dates: December 24 through February 3 = Reevaluate your feelings.
January 13 = Best day during this period for matters concerning love and money. Be attentive and receptive.
January 13 through 19 = Watch for impulsive activity that can cause upsets of an emotional or biological nature.
Indications for each Sun Sign during the Venus Retrograde Period
Aries
You'll need a lot of patience during this period because everything you say seems to be up for criticism. You feel urged to go public with some information even though your better judgment says to wait. As long as you've checked and double-checked the information, everything should be okay. This is especially true if you have presented the same information in the past. A good time to review your career goals and how you present yourself in public.
Taurus
Philosophy, religion and foreign studies contribute valuable information. Communicate with teachers, mentors and in-laws for advice, but in the end keep your own counsel. Be aware of saying things that could be misinterpreted. In fact, it's best to keep your opinions to yourself during this period. Go over all documents signed by others with a fine-toothed comb. A good time to study alone and review all plans in formation.
Gemini
Hidden information becomes revealed, usually accompanied by a crisis. Conversations can be misleading and you might inadvertently betray a confidence. Be especially careful when filing tax forms and filling out insurance claims. Difficulties lie in the simplest of details. Important papers get mislaid, but you could also find papers that were lost in the past. A good time to review insurance policies, your will and all joint holdings.
Cancer
Communications with doctors, accountants and attorneys as well as with your significant other have extra importance during this period. Take the time to restate what has been said to be sure that there are no misunderstandings. Encourage your mate to talk and listen carefully to what they have to say. A good time to review partnership agreements.
Leo
Conversations with coworkers or employees become emphasized. Miscommunications arise at the work place, especially in the areas of priorities and scheduling. It's the petty details that drive you crazy in your attempt to create order out of a multitude of unrelated information. Lots of list making and even with all that analyzing, there is difficulty putting your ideas into practice. Simple tasks have to be repeated over and over. A good time to review all your daily routines.
Virgo
Children and/or immature adults bend your ear with their ideas. Discussions are playful in nature and, because you do most of the listening, you are considered deep. Misunderstandings occur even in the most relaxed of atmospheres. Be clear about what you hear and say, especially if there is a risk involved. Communications regarding speculative ventures and investments are particularly prone to error. A good time to review your creative projects.
Libra
Remedial studies, neighborhood activities, travels about town and brief communications, especially with siblings or peers, are emphasized during this period. Lost messages, misdirected phone calls, letters sent to or received by the wrong person, computer errors, commuting delays and transportation glitches are among the many things that seem to go awry. You must be prepared to adapt. A good time for research to write an article or pamphlet for future publication.
Scorpio
Information regarding parental influence and your early childhood holds profound knowledge. Your sensitivity to unspoken nuances in conversations with family members generates subjective responses that will have to be addressed in order to avoid misunderstandings. Gaining clarity about your emotional foundations and family relationships has a far-reaching impact on your future. A good time to review your family history or current domestic situation.
Sagittarius
Your personal resources, values and self-worth become popular topics of discussion; misinformation about any of which is a problem requiring special scrutiny. Mistaken information can adversely affect your bank balance. Delay the desire to shop 'til you drop or purchase items by mail, phone or on-line. Items bought now will likely be returned. A good time to review your budget, reassess your assets and plan for future purchases.
Capricorn
Conversations seem to focus on your personality during this period, in particular how you express yourself and your desire to be of service. You have to repeat and explain yourself continually. It's so easy for you to be misunderstood that it's probably best for you to remain silent. Be as clear as you can when communicating who you are to others. A good time to review how you appear to others and make plans for improving or restyling your personal presentation.
Aquarius
Psychic impressions contain information to be studied. Keep an idea book and put everything down that comes to you, but keep your plans secret. Speaking of secrets, expect to hear everyone else's as you are an excellent listener during this period. You will be prey to unfounded fears and anxieties, so make an extra effort to determine what's real and what's not. A good time to review your spirituality and belief system.
Pisces
Social groups, clubs and organizations are a source of information. Contact with friends and supporters can help to sort out your confusion about your personal financial security. Listen to their advice but don't allow them to influence your decisions out of a sense of loyalty. Be careful about making commitments that could be misunderstood. A good time to review career benefits as well as your hopes, wishes and dreams for the future.

Cruise News
What a wonderful week! We started our trip out of Houston. Most of us stayed at the Doubletree Galleria where we met, to kick off our cruise, with a Murder Mystery and cocktail party. Lafayette's Bessie Senette was the "killer" and kudos go out to the amazing group of actors which included Paula Burkland, Dave Lyons as "Pierre", Mark Potter, Joann Seckus as the grieving daughter, my webmaster Rich E. and Jamie Malag for their outstanding performances.
From there a group of us went to a late dinner where they had a gourmet dessert buffet. The next day, everyone board the Norwegian Sun, ready for a sun and fun filled week. Sunday night was designated for "Meet the Speakers". We had over 23 speakers take the floor from all over the country, introducing themselves and their workshops for the week ahead.
Monday was our first day at sea and co-producer Clay Thomas led the morning sessions followed by Minnesota's Tina Shepard who taught us about art journaling and understanding the hidden meanings in the pictures and symbols we drew. Georgia's Dudley and Donna Voll did an amazing class on spirit art. While Dudley led us through a Native American drumming meditation, Donna was led by spirit to create beautiful drawings with messages for class participants. Then New Orleans breathworker Jack Fontana took the stage and led us through an amazing journey of "letting go" o f pent up hurts, frustrations and pain. It was a rejuvenation time for us...a major breakthrough for many, as well.
After lunch the classes started again with Minnesota's Deb Irestone, giving her captive audience a glimpse into hypnosis. Popular Minneapolis speaker Jean Wallis, who wowed crowds last year, did the same this year with her entertaining and enlightening lecture, finding you inner muse. Michigan's Barb Garza was next and amazed us with her intuitive readings, that were even better than John Edward. Minnesota's Emilia Bernat spoke with us about Genesis tools and bio genetics in her passionate lecture. Bessie Senette spoke of Energy Medicine and the new science of wellness. Then Baton Rouge's Aimee Buckel spoke on connecting with the Angelic Realm. I closed the afternoon sessions with a lecture on Your Home's Vibration...your address holds special meaning in relation to your home and its energy.
After dinner, about 30 people came up to my suite and we had a blast playing a candy bar game and Merlin Jacobsen from Utah entertained us with his "dance" moves. The laughter never stopped!
By Tuesday , we were excited and ready to see Mexico and visit Cozumel. I went to the Mayan Ruins in a group that headed by a local named Moses. He led us through a deep meditation at the Ruin Sites. Then it was onto a local Mexican restaurant for Margaritas and delicious food. I ordered lots of coca -cola . The coke in Mexico is like the coca cola from years ago before they changed the formula. It tastes stronger and reminds me of kind of pop I drank as a kid. I brought a six pack to take home and enjoy.
Back on the boat, we dined at a wonderful ship restaurant called "Pacific Heights" then made our way to the Psychic Fun Fair where readers and speakers exchanged visions and impressions, sharing their intuitive gifts. We held a silent auction fund-raiser for some of the folks in our spiritual community from New Orleans. We raised $620 and that money was distributed among them. I had a reading from Vicky Lowry, an excellent Cajun reader from Louisiana. She told us she was around eight years old and her grandmother made her give readings to everyone in the family and that's how she got started in her spiritual line of work.
Aimee Buckel held yoga classes every morning on deck and then it was off to the exciting ports. Wednesday we were in Belize. Many from our group decided to hit the beaches and go snorkeling or swim with the dolphins. Michigan's Hazel Thompson and Mark Potter, who by the way got engaged on the ship, taught a class together on developing your own intuition. Thursday we ported in Roatan Islands, Honduras for a day of shopping and sightseeing. That evening, Tennessee's Sandra Bonkosky taught a class on working with color therapy followed by my Soul Mate workshop and Californian Lisa Prunier's insightful "Shamanic Principles". By Friday night, we were ready for Chicago's Joann Seckus to talk on how to read your palms, Carol Ball (Michigan) spoke on animal totems and Lafayette's Glenda Garber shared her insight on the Osho Zen Tarot.
Saturday's classes were a special treat too with Indiana's Rev. Timothy Mellott leading a course in miracles. Jamie Malag from Illinois had us all intrigued with natural living oils. Muncie's Jenny Moss told us how to get organized and Amy Perkins of Michigan taught the fundamentals of reflexology. After lunch, Rev. John Schulte (Missouri) gave an impressive channeling session with Megatron. Wow! You should have been there! Merlin Jacobsen (Utah) taught us basic astrology and Chicago's Holly Johnson showed us a way to find secret symbols and meanings in our names. Then we all dined together than night, went dancing and sang on stage with Kurt from Minneapolis leading everyone in a rendition of John Mellencamp's Hurt So Good. We learned a great deal as everyone shared their knowledge but what I will remember is the immense amount of joy and laughter among us. I haven't laughed so much.... since I don't know when! Everyone was a comedian in our group. Whether a client, a guest, a speaker, a reader or artist, everyone had something beautiful to share or contribute to the group. I am looking forward to next year's adventures and hope those of you who couldn't join us this time will join us in Sedona over Memorial Day weekend or on our cruise to Italy November 4th - 12.
Special thanks to Tammy and Clay who worked so hard to make this cruise happen, especially during Katrina. Thanks to all who sailed with us and created these special memories and new friendships!

Hi!! I had a blast on my first cruise! YOU are fun to hang out with also and thanks for including me! Merlin had a blast also! Joann is a hoot to hang with also! -Jamie
Hi, Maria, I did enjoy the cruise.... I sure did enjoy the new people I met and was so happy to reunite with those I met last year. I think some important contacts were made and maybe some folks will come to MN to share some of their gifts, once we are done snowing and into spring. Thank you also for taking your time to do a reading with me and also for the ways you support so many of us....Have a super day, my lady, and the happiest of holidays. We all had a great time - you hang out with great folks!

FYI: New Orleans News
I have recently heard from Peggy Gelpi formerly of New Orleans. Many of you know her as JoyBubble. I now have her contact info since she was displaced due to Katrina and happy to share it with those of you who know her:
Hi, Maria...my love and best wishes to you and all my friends from the cruise and beyond! For those who hadn't yet heard, my home was completely flooded for months by Hurricane Katrina, so I have lost everything (...material!) and am permanently relocated with wonderful friends of the heart in Millbrook, a tiny town just north of Montgomery, Alabama's state capitol. In this rural area, the concept of vibrational medicine is still considered pretty woo-woo and the two defining questions they ask everyone up front are "What Church do you go to?" and "Which college football team do you support?"
However, I really miss speaking my native tongue of Conscious Living. I'd love to hear from all of you and also get copies of any photos of Joy Bubble and/or the original ME (I feel the loss of those mementos most intensely.) FYI, my contact info is as follows:
joybubblelove@yahoo.com
Phone 334-285-2911
I hope that we will be able to remain closely heart-connected across the miles as we continue our respective journeys through this interesting adventure we call life! Big hugs and love always, Peggy

Astro Diet Update
Maria Shaw's Astro Diet Book was featured in the National Examiner Magazine dated December 19th. If you're planning on making losing weight your new years resolution, consider the Astro Diet just like these clients who wrote in with testimonials. Many of us have tried just about every diet under the sun. You believe in working with astrology when it comes to your future; career, money and love...so why not use it when it comes to a diet plan?
Astro Dieters Testimonials
My letter is to update you on my process on your wonderful program! I don't know how it happened, but at the end of the month I am down 12 pounds! I am not going to say it was easy, but it wasn't always hard! The motivation that came from your program was very cool. Other than feeling your personal concern, I really had the feeling that after I read your helpful daily diet forecast, that the whole universe was working with me. I remember your forecasts like: "Today the moon is in Scorpio until 4:05p.m. then there is avoid moon from 4:06p.m. until 9:45p.m. EST when the moon goes into Sagittarius. Sagittarius is ruled by the planet Jupiter. Jupiter is about abundance. Please be careful that you don't "over do". Then when I would get hungry during that time, instead of going for another snack I would think. "oh yea, it's that stupid Sagittarius moon" I would laugh and not eat.... it would make me aware of what I was doing. Maria, it was great. You know at this time in our lives we all know what we should be doing but you make us think about it and become aware. Thank you Maria!
Cheryl , Leo - I never felt alone and YOU were there when I needed you. Thanks so much. Now I have all baggy clothes…I love it! I would tell the world how helpful this diet was and that it keeps you committed. THANK YOU!! It was a great learning experience and would love to continue learning more about astrology and what to be prepared for.
Chris, Cancer - I have been able get into clothes that I have not worn in many years. I was at a major plateau when you started this diet study and I learned so much during this past month. My daughter saw a picture of me from last summer and made the comment that I sure was" fat" and that I look so much better now. I have to tell you that I feel so much better both physically and emotionally than I did one year ago.
Julie, Aries - You have motivated me with a new passion to live a healthy lifestyle. I am only five pounds away from my goal! My sister keeps asking me what I am doing to lose weight because she sees I've lost a lot of inches. When I told her about the Astro Diet, she wanted to get on it. My boyfriend said the three magic words to me today…."You've lost weight!"
The book is geared towards starting your diet plan in 2006 because there is a day by day calendar that starts January 1 2006 and takes you all the way through the end of 2006. Each day, you will get a diet forecast for the day as well as tips and affirmations. In addition to the calendar part of the book, the chapters include diet ideas, specific times and dates for weight loss, motivation tools, foods you should eat based on your sign as well as specific times to start dieting to insure success. 810-631-6887 or order off the website. |

Problems with getting my newsletters?
We're having more and more problems with email providers blocking us, as we are suspected of sending spam around with this email letter. If you miss out on any future issues (currently AOL, .cs, worldnett.att.net members and even some MSN addresses are a huge trouble here) ask your email provider to UNBLOCK this newsletter address. AOL members need to phone the AOL Postmaster Hotline at 1-703-265-4670 or 1-888-212-5537 and ask them to get us on the whitelist. (And then they are first going to monitor our email behavior. :-) )
Each week we are sending the non deliverables on to Rich who takes great pains in getting the email newsletter to you but, boy, it is almost becoming unmanageable with the current anti-spam politics. We're suffering both ways now. From the spam and from the blockades. Please note that if you miss out on any future issue, this may be because YOUR provider has blocked our email address. What can you do? Ask your provider to unblock this newsletter email address immediately...for this is not an unsolicited bulk mail but a much wanted one. :-)
